We first met Juan Manuel Caldera from afar during his TEDx speech in 2013 in the capital of Nicaragua, Managua. As spectators in the crowd, we were blown away as he discussed his life story: covering wars as a journalist (including being taken hostage in Iraq in 1990), creating an internationally awarded natural reserve in the greater San Juan Del Sur area, spearheading the Nicaraguan Association of Development & Investment, as well as being a founding member of the first internationally certified drug & alcohol rehabilitation center established in Nicaragua.
We never imagined that years later our paths would cross again, this time on the southern pacific coast in San Juan Del Sur. In addition to his various talents and trades, Juan is an active real estate developer, and over the years we have formed a close working & personal relationship.
We sat down with Juan Manuel Caldera at one his projects, El Romance, and discussed his real estate ventures over the last 15+ years – lessons learned as well as his vision of real estate development in San Juan Del Sur and Nicaragua in the future. We speak about integrating sustainability into development on both an ecological and community level, preservation of one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world, and our roles in this process.
This is a great conversation starter for anyone interested in real estate, sustainability, and social impact. Please watch and enjoy! If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact us!
